In October 2026, the second stage of the creative project for choral exchange between the Children’s Choir “Dobri Hristov” at the Central Center for the Performing Arts-UDK, Varna and the Children’s Choir “Cantemus” from Hamburg, Germany will take place in Varna. The idea and implementation of the project is the work of conductors Galina Stanisheva and Corina and Clemens Bergemann.
The project began in May, when the Bulgarian children visited Hamburg. From October 15 to 20, Varna will host the second stage of the exchange, where the children from “Kantemus” will be received by their peers from the Children’s Choir “Dobri Hristov”.
The Hamburg Children’s Choir “Kantemus” at the Academy of Choral Music in Hamburg (Chorakademie Hamburg), Germany was founded in 1999 by Corina and Clemens Bergemann. In the work of the choir, an important place is occupied by classical vocal training, intensive choral and project activities, and meetings with children and choirs from different countries. International cultural exchange is an essential part of the concept of “Kantemus” – through joint concerts and visits, children are introduced not only to a different musical repertoire, but also to the life, culture and traditions of their peers from other countries.
During their stay in Varna, the guests will have the opportunity to get to know the city and its cultural heritage, participate in joint rehearsals and musical activities and spend time with their Bulgarian friends. An important part of the project is also the placement of the children in host families, which turns the musical exchange into a real meeting between peers and cultures.
The culmination of the visit will be the joint concert of the two children’s choirs on October 16, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. at the Boris Georgiev City Art Gallery – Varna.
The meeting of the two ensembles is a continuation of an already started creative partnership and an opportunity for the young choristers to share their musical experience, discover different cultural traditions and build friendships across borders. This is what turns choral singing not only into an art, but also into a space for communication, mutual understanding and the creation of lasting human connections.
