On September 26, Burgas hosted a concert that brought together choral art, pop and rock music and the energy of young performers. “Hits for a Choir” offered the audience a different interpretation of well-known songs and showed how impressively favorite hits can sound when performed by a young choir.
On the stage of the “Petya Dubarova” hall, young singers from the Children’s Choir “Orpheus” – Haskovo, vocal formation “Sea Sands” – Burgas and soloists from the Central Bulgarian Philharmonic Society – Burgas met. The concert included hits by ABBA, Elton John, Michael Jackson, “Tonica”, “Shturtsite”, Ricchi e Poveri and Imagine Dragons. The songs were specially arranged for choral performance by Milena Dobreva, which gives them a new sound and turns familiar melodies into large-scale polyphonic musical paintings.
The music was complemented by movement and rhythm. Sabina Koseva is the author of the choreography, and Daniela Manolova works with the singers on the percussion, turning the performances into a complete stage experience.
A special place in the concert is occupied by the Orpheus Children’s Choir, which this year celebrates nearly half a century since its establishment. Founded in 1977, the choir has a rich concert history and has represented Bulgaria on stages in Italy, Spain, Wales, England, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Canada and a
number of other countries.
“Sea Sands” also added their energy and talent – a formation with an active presence in the cultural life of the city and numerous awards from national and international competitions.
“Hits for a Choir” is a meeting between generations, styles and musical traditions – a concert in which familiar songs are given new life, and young performers show that choral music can be modern, dynamic and impressive.
The concert is realized under the “Art Academy for Choirists” project, funded by the National Council of the Bulgarian Federation under the “Amateur Art’25” program.
