The University Choir “Folk-Jazz Formation” of NBU was among the participants in the third edition of the International Festival of Student Choirs 04-06.07.2025, organized by the Student Cultural Institute in the city of Niš, Republic of Serbia.
Some of the most prominent University Choirs from Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia were invited to participate in the three festival evenings, and they performed a varied free program within 40 minutes. Among them were:
Women’s Academic Choir CKS Niš, Serbia with conductor Prof. Ivana Mirović,
Academic Choir CKS of the University of Niš, Serbia with conductor Prof. Zoran Stanisavljevic,
Marmara University Choir, Istanbul, Turkey with conductor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bulet Halvashi,
University Choir of the Department of Music Studies in Ioannina, Greece with conductor Dr. Antonis Ververis,
Polyphonic Choir of Pamukkale Denizli University, Turkey with conductor Dr. Aykut Onder Saraçiftçi.
University Choir “Folk-Jazz Formation” of NBU with conductor Prof. Dr. Georgi Petkov distinguished itself with a diverse program including: Eastern Orthodox Church-Slavic chants, six compositions by Georgi Petkov, in the “folk-jazz” style, two songs by Milcho Leviev, Petko Staynov, Louis Prima and Henry Millsby. The students sang with great enthusiasm, supported by the stormy applause of the demanding audience from the city of Niš and the colleagues from the other Balkan choirs, who were delighted during the performances of the Folk-Jazz Formation! The audience erupted in applause several times during the virtuoso improvisations of jazz piano student Iliya Lazarov, from the class of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Angel Zaberski! It turned out to be a wonderful,
exciting and memorable concert, as well as a very successful closing of the 2024-2025 academic year for the NBU University Choir!
