At the beginning of September 2016, former choir members of the Svilengrad Choral School (established in 1985), together with their conductor Kiril Turpov, decided to restore the tradition of choral singing in the town. The first rehearsal was on 4th October 2016.
In 2018, the Choir of the Little Ones was created – children from First to Fourth grade from schools in Svilengrad. The formation is quickly gaining momentum. Participates in festivals in Haskovo, Varna and Svilengrad. Since the beginning of the 2019/2020 season, all sections of the Choral School necessary for its work have been created. The circle closes with the Mixed Choir “Svilengrad”.
During these years, the Children’s Choir has successfully participated in the festivals “National Festival of Christmas and New Year Song”, Haskovo 2018, 2019 “Festival of Children’s and Youth Choirs”, Varna 2019, 2020 and has performed a large number of solo concerts around the municipality and beyond. In its repertoire the Choral School has works from different eras and genres.
The Choral School is the organizer and host of the Let’s Sing Together and Choirs in Pop and Rock festivals.
Kiril Turpov made his debut as conductor and director of The Soldier’s Story, Stravinsky. He organized a festival, “100 Years of Igor Stravinsky”.
In 1989 he moved to his hometown of Plovdiv. In 1994 he founded the Musical Youth Foundation. He directs the chamber orchestras “Collegium for Chamber Art of the Twentieth Century”, “Collegium Musikum Plovdiv”, Chamber Orchestra “Musical Youth”, etc.
Since 1999 he has lived and worked in New York. There he conducts cultural exchange programs between Bulgaria and the USA. He became a member of the Association of American Choral Conductors and realized his idea for a Bulgarian-American arts forum “Festival of Light”. Since 2003 he has organized the Festival of Bulgarian Art and Culture “Bulgarian Seasons in New York. He founded the Young Soloists of New York Chamber Orchestra, which grew into the Young Soloists of New York Chamber Society Foundation.
Serves as a teacher and conductor in the U.S. Charter School system. In 2014 – 2015 he was the conductor of the Shen Yun Troupe Orchestra. Since September 2016 he has returned to Bulgaria, restored and works as a conductor of the “Svilengrad” Choir School.
