Academic Choir “Sexaginta Prista – Bulgaria”

The choir at Ruse University “Angel Kanchev” was founded by ICV Musicdirector Plamen Georgiev on 1 March 2018. The ensemble is a mixed choir of about 45 singers. The aims of the ensemble are to establish itself as a modern choir of a new generation with a rich repertoire of all styles and eras. A particular highlight is its performances of sacred music in Orthodox and Catholic churches. In its short existence, the Academic Choir has performed at the Lyuben Karavelov District Library, St. Paul of the Cross”, Military Club Ruse, Festival “Lumina din Lumina” in Giurgiu – Romania, 8th Choir Meeting “St. Georgi Pobedonosets”, National Initiative of the Bulgarian Choral Union “Bulgaria Sings” – 2021 and 2022, 10th International Choral Festival “Black Sea Sounds” – Balchik -2021, Church Festival in Popovo, where he received the Special Prize of Popovo Municipality, 6th International Choral Festival in Çanakkale, Turkey – 2022. On November 24, 2019, the Choir realized its first solo matinee concert in the Dohodnoe Buda in Ruse. 2023, the Choir participated in the 62nd edition of the March Music Days in Ruse, where it presented a program Musica Sacra.

Music Director ICV Plamen Georgiev
Born in Ruse, graduated from the Music School “Prof. Veselin Stoyanov” in Ruse as violinist and BCD – Sofia as a choir conductor. He works with various choirs in Sofia, Pernik, Dupnitsa and Stara Zagora, where he is the chief conductor of the city choir. He specialised under Professor Claudius Ptitsa and Professor Vasil Arnaudov.

For ten years he was chief artistic director of the Danube Waves Choir School and conductor of the Rodina Choir in Ruse. After 25 years of conducting activity in Germany, for which he received the title of Musikdirektor. In 2017 he was the chief conductor of the choir at the State Opera – Ruse, and since March 1, 2018 he is the founder and chief conductor of the choir “Sexaginta Prista – Bulgaria” at the Angel Kanchev University of Culture.

He has won many first, special and conducting prizes at competitions in Europe. He has been a teacher and jury member in many prestigious choral festivals.
